Though notice some are doing retainer rings that don't rely on narrow wide now, these may be available in 33t.

Aren't these just the same as a singlespeed ring? I.e. long non-ramped teeth

Think Shimano use teeth that are angled forwards slightly on their "Dynamic Chain Engagement" single ring. So I guess that doesn't need to have an even number of teeth, though they only seem to be doing them in even numbers.
