[#6958148]

I'm carrying up and riding down for the first time second week in Easter and just wondered if the snow was gone from the summit. I walked it last year but any tips I may not of considered for doing it with the bike would be good to hear

Saw some pics on Instagram yesterday and whilst there was some snow it was fairly clear.
However situations can change. Snow on cars in Hebden Bridge today!

I was up last Saturday. The only snow was on the railway higher up. You'll be fine.

I was planning on going tomorrow, any locals reckon it's worth it or not? I don't really fancy a 3hr each way drive to ride either in the rain, clouds or snow haha, I actually want to enjoy it!

Try and get a clear day if you go up otherwise its a bit soul destroying.

There's snow on the tops of my local mountains, the Carneddi, so I'd assume there's some on Snowden. Web cam here: http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/Snowdon/webcams/latest

We're off a couple of weeks after you. Can't wait.

A bit of snow is not necessarily the end of the world - I did it in October a couple of years ago with some fairly thick snow at the top and it was rideable with care. On the other hand I walked it in March a few more years ago and we turned round at Clogwyn station due to the gale force wind and sheet ice.

Which route are you doing?

(I had some joy with POF, but that was years ago)

Not ashamed to say I turned back once at Clogwyn on bike because of blasting wind, nevermind ice! A bit of snow up top will be fine with a bit of care, but check beforehand for wind-speeds and cloud-levels

We have a choice of Wednesday and Thursday so will pick the day accordingly hopefully

(Someone at work uses POF and just goes from shag to shah constantly)

Llanberis / Rangers is awesome, just don't miss the turn up to Telegraph Valley.

(I met I think three lovely ladies off POF; obviously none of them lasted mind but all were measured in months rather than minutes)

I'll have my gps on the bars so hopefully shouldn't miss it and will check out the os map view before I go! Walked the Rangers/rhydu last year so looking forward to it!

I always suggest (and do) park at Ranger Station rather than Llanberis. Climb up the zig zags to the left turn to Telegraph Valley, blast down, up the tourist and then Ranger. That way you get the full uninterupted descent to Ranger Station, the lower zig zags are a hoot and usually missed by starting in Llanberis (unless you miss the telegraph turn and blast down by mistake).

(Guardian Soulmates, 10 months relationship, POF 2 year relationship and counting :D)

I may well do it that way when we go, never ridden the bottom of the Rangers but it could be fun. Probably quicker up too.

Most of those walkers will be on the Llanberis, Pyg or Miners track. Rangers or Rhyd Ddu will be much quieter.

Aye you can't really go wrong on the Rangers, hardest bits are finding it off the Llanberis and finding Telegraph, but if you go straight up and down you don't need to worry about either of those.

Planning on walking Snowdon, Good Friday. Taking the Watkin path .
Need to finally shift this damn snotty cold induced chest infection once and for all, first though, hopefully get a steady ride in this weekend beforehand.

One good reason to start/finish in Llanberis is of course Pete's Eats!

(and the last bit down to the Rangers Station after the RH turn off / short climb up to the start of Telegraph isn't really that good either, being largely a gravel path)

Shit yeah, forgot about Pete's Eats. Now I remember why I start in Llanberis.

Just wanted to say cheers to lowey, we followed the gps route yesterday he sent me and it was the most fantastic riding and day we've ever done. I'm burnt to a crisp now and shattered but wow! Walked up cadair idris the day before too but without bikes, also wow!

Went up yesterday. Due to time and failing fitness just and up and down of Llanberis Path. One patch of snow to the side of the path but not on the path and patches of snow still sitting on the banks of the railway cutting that was all.

Your welcome GC. Brill day out. We were lucky with the weather when we last did it too.

I did it on Tuesday. Brilliant whether and views. I went up the llanberis and down the ranger path to telegraph valley.
The snow is gone everywhere bar the train tracks.

Seems crazy that seeing as I can see Snowdon from my parents' bedroom window (on a clear day) I have never actually ridden up there. Looking at those pics GC I think it is something I will have to rectify on my next visit to those shores.

You really should, I cant speak highly of it enough! The climb up isnt that bad, especially considering we walked up cadair idris literally the day before!

Staggers me how some people just aren't scared of heights in the same way as I am! Now don't get me wrong, I was fine all the way up Snowdon (and I really enjoyed the descent), but the moment I got to the top, I was on all fours to get up the last few steps to the summit, and couldn't even stand up once on the top, much less pose with my bike! LOL

Dear god I hate heights!!!

I've looked at Youtube vids of this ride. All stop/start, dicing with walkers every ten yards. It isn't on my to do list!
