I accept you did not intend to injure him

so you can ram someone on purpose with your car and the judge will accept you never meant to hurt them? How ?

At least he got time.

Its not clear whether the cyclist accidentally clipped the mirror or deliberately hit it though. It is also a hit and run and he only lost his licence for one year ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Good, It's a start. Not enough for attempted murder, but better than some of the outcomes that we get.
Disclaimer; I have just started the commute again after the Easter hols and already a driver has been invited to park up and discuss our differing understanding of the highway code,so I am not feeling esp forgiving just now.

Surely a charge of attempted murder with diminished responsibility..?

Surely the defendant is saying 'yes my behaviour would indicate that I was trying to kill the cyclist, but I didn't intend to injure him'

Could you fire a gun at someone and say that you weren't intending to injure them..?

3 months sounds reasonable..

As per junkyard it doesn't state whether the initial contact was deliberate. If a cyclist tried to squeeze up the inside then found he couldn't and deliberately hit my car I'd be furious. Wouldn't try and knock someone off their bike however!

Think suggesting attempted murder is getting a bit carried away...

Only if it was low speed [ reads like it was]but I am not sure how you hit a cyclist or a pedestrian with a car and then claim you dont mean to hurt them.

how is attempted murder getting carried away.. a two ton steel motor vehicle being used as a weapon against a squishy little pink mammal..?

How's that ever gonna end well?

Stuck between a car driven at you on purpose and a crash barrier even at 5mph is going to kill you as soon as it removes the gap between car and barrier.

FFS people don't even get done for attempted murder when they have attempted to murder someone by stabbing/shooting them in head/neck/chest whatever, never mind for something like this.

Two wrongs don't make it right though do they?

Ideally both would be charged accordingly, and anything that reminds people that cars ARE deadly when misused, and should be operated accordingly is a welcome reminder.

Hopefully 3 months of ring piece widening therapy in prison will make him think twice about doing it again in the future!

Attempted Murder is a bit dramatic however 3 months for deliberate use of car against a cyclist is at the low end of the sentencing range. Judge could easily have justified (within the law) giving him 12 months for that.

Large metal object capable of killing used in a dangerous manner - is that assault with a deadly weapon in the USA?
