all being equal, i.e.
same brakes, same drivetrain - so essentially they could just slot it
or will i just use the one thats built?

I had 2 sets of wheels with different tires 1. Frame set.
Wheels never got changed.

Works for me.. one ht one fs.. one set of wheels..
Use a different cassette on each bike too..
Fs is 2x10 11-36 with Xt brakes
Ht is 1x10 11-42 with deore brakes
Tends to er more towards HT in winter and fs in summer..

I did it for a little while but it was a pain in the bum. TBH it was more the tyres- the big bike and the little bike could use the same wheels but they wanted different tyres
