As topic really - 2hrs/35-odd miles. Bearing in mind I have to cycle through town to get anywhere.

And please not out on the Lanark road ๐Ÿ™

Having to cycle through town immediately limits your options as a good part of that 35 miles/ 2 hrs would be taken up going out to, say, Joppa. You're best options are therefore going to be South West (yes, yes, I know) or directly South. If you head out to Bonnyrigg and pick up NCN1, that takes you out towards Middleton and a whole host of roads West of there out to the Peebles road.

I don't like the A701 very much, but the A702 isn't too bad. You can head down there to Rommano Bridge, then take a left, join on to the A72, then back through the Meldons to Eddleston.

Middleton then to Inners, mind you that return is about 34miles. Lot sof fab 30-40 mile routes down there but you need to drive to not double the distance.

I live in Stockbridge at the moment, so it takes me the best part of 30mins to clear town, unless I head west to Dalmeny and the FRB.

2hrs ain't a strict rule, but looking for something to do after work before it gets too dark (and so I don't blow my Pentlands wad before the grim winter).

BTW, what's that road cycling route website again? It seems to have a massive route collection, but darn if I can remember it.

from stockbridge i'd be heading west - cyclepath to cramond brig and out to towards linlithgow via kirkliston. can head into the hills on quiter roads from winchburgh. some nice stuff in the bathgate alpes. generally get a tailwind home.

I'd head east along the coast and choose any one of a million routes in east lothian. Or you could do laps of Arthurs seat with Gregor.
