just been re reading a dirt review of the orange 5 29er, Steve Jones was running a 2.1 maxxis with 5-psi to help manoeuvrability and traction, it was a southern france endure terrain that seems a bit hard and extreme and unnecessary or am I missing something?

5 psi you say!!

I typically run my front at 23-25psi and my rear a bit harder. They're 2.3" and 2.1" respectively

5 psi has got to be a misprint.

5 psi?

more like 5-bar (approx 70psi) which is very hard for a MTB

I run Specialized Purgatory, Captain and Fast Trak tires in 29'er using stan's no-tubes and typically run 30-35psi

although sometimes I go riding with the tires at 20-25psi if I have not pumped them up for a week and am feeling too lazy to use the track pump next to my bikes, before going out the door!

Rocket Ron 2.25 and Racing Ralph 2.25 both about -5psi compared to a 26" tyre. I.e. 25PSI

Need to get off my arse and sort a tubeless conversion out.

IME 29'ers generally run lower pressures, especially when set up tubeless
