I've got a rigid ss 29er.

Thinking of beefing up the front. Max I can clear is 2.3 on the back

Any recommendations wheel/tyre/fork combos for front? Does it make much of a difference?

Knard on Dually upfront, on the rear is a Dually but with a chunky monkey which comes up massive and only just goes will be swapped for a Smorgasbord soon. Upfront is where the big tyre makes the difference.

2.35 Hans Dam of on the front of mine for general summer riding with a 2.2 Racing Ralph on the rear. Got 2.0 Specialized Storm Controls on both ends for the winter though.

Niner SIR.9 with a Niner steel fork & a Knard on a Dually up front.
Was fearing the worst but actually wasn't that bad around Cannock this evening.
Suits the bike really well, running tubeless at about 15psi.
2.35 Ralph on the back.

Niner fork is very similar to Swift steel fork, at a third of the price. ๐Ÿ˜‰
I think they run close with a Knard on a Rabbit hole, but the Knard on the Dually runs about 5mm narrower.

I've run a Knard on a Crest, which worked but was a bit nerve-racking. I've just switched to a Maxxis Chronicle on a Dually. The Chronicle is hugely better as a wet conditions tyre. I love 29+ up front but not that interested in a big fat rear.

Not SS, I know;

I've had my Knard for a while, great in the summer, as long as it's not too dusty. Mud is just awful, at least around South East Kent where it can be very claggy and chalky. I love the cushion-for-pushin' but I might try something else for the winter. Maybe even go small again?

Niner fork is very similar to Swift steel fork, at a third of the price.

At three times the price, more like - it's 853, after all?
Anyway, I'm using a ChunKy Monkey on the front of my Hummingbird SS at about 18psi. Works fine for me.

Just a quick pic- installed the Chronicle 3.0" today. I was running Purgatory 2.3" that have been great until now. Haven't ridden the Chronicle yet but initial thoughts are that the tread pattern will suit the local mud. The compound is also fairly sticky which is good.

I've just got a 2.4 chunky monkey for the front of my rigid el mariachi. Looks the business it is wide chunky tyre and the tread looks like it'll be a good all rounder compared to the knard. It actually feels pretty light, not sure I'd fancy it on the back.

Not singlespeed...

I find Chunky Monkey on the front a Smorgasbord on the back of my Karate Monkey fine.

Both on nice and wide(ish) Pacenti DL31 rims.

They are draggy on tarmac but thats missing the point somewhat!
