I'm after some 26" rims on track or BMX hubs. They have to be bolt up and I'm going to run a BMX freewheel or run it fixed. Spacing isn't so important as it's a steel rear end. I'm building up an old Kona Humu and need wheels!
Not looking to spend a massive amount of money and don't mind secondhand, but I'm struggling to source anything suitable.
Any pointers?

How can you be struggling when you are just looking for screw on hubs and any rims?

If you can find something with a gold rim that would be ace. Cheers.

Alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!

But yeah, follow the chain reaction link below where you will find a wide and varied range of hubs and rims. Some of them might be gold.

. They have to be bolt up

Why? I used QR road hubs on my Humu as it was a 130mm rear end, with a HALO Hex 5mm Allen and a chain tug on drive side.

EBay or CRC or LBS will probably be best for hubs and rims and then build em.

qwerty, thought of that. I prefer bolt up, but it's an option.

try asking on the trick section of lfgss http://www.lfgss.com/forum33.html - not sure if there are many companies selling full wheels.. but you can probably pick one up second hand there, and they will certainly know what the deal is (trend for fixie tricks is slowly edging towards the realisation that they just want a bmx, currently 26 is quite common)

Why a track hub? Why not just a normal SS hub, wouldn't need to bend the frame then? And why a BMX freewheel, by the time you've dded on £65 for a WI freewheel that wont pack in at the first sign of mud you may as well buy a Pro2 trials hub.

I'm pretty sure Kona bent it out to get a 135 in there as the current rear axle in banana-ed.

I'll buy 10 normal freewheels instead of a WI.

Doesn't have to be a track hub. It just has to be:
26" rim
Bolt up
Either singles speed or with a freewheel
Cheap(ish)
Gold if possible!

I'm looking for something like this that I got outbid on:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120879732291?ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1433.l2649

if you can see it.

I'll buy 10 normal freewheels instead of a WI.

Still a flase economy, and you'll need to carry them all with you 😛 On the plus side you could carry 10 different ratio's and swap them round, it'd be like having gears 😀

To be fair to AL, you have added a number of requirements since your first post.

In the past I've used and been impressed by the custom wheel builds by www.life-cycles.co.uk turn around wasn't the fastest the last time i used them, it was the Christmas period and i had previously said i was in no rush.

http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/ also have a huge range of hubs and offer there own wheel building service, there online rim choice is more trials but if you contacted them I'm sure they would tell you if they could build up a more conventional rim.

Your best bet is to choose a rim and hub combo (even if they don't stock it they may be able to get it for you)and ring them up and ask for a quote and see how long the lead time would be.

BruceM - thanks for the suggestion.
To be fair to me, I've only said they have to be available by post and gold would be nice. But I'm still waiting for Al's suggestions.
