I've still got my S1 frame, and been thinking of building it back up again. 😀

I'm in the market for a 27.5 ht that take a tapered steerer. You'd think that would be a shoe-in but yet to find anything I particularly like.

I quite like the stealthy integration on this belt drive, Alfine, dynamo powered commuter

[img] [/img]

with a change of tyres (&grips) i wonder how much rough stuff it'd like...?

You reckon it'd stomach the odd CX race?

Stanton, Production Privee, Cotic not fitting the bill?

Canyon. £1500 for that top end model. Its got some really nice touches & details going on for a production bike.

hadn't heard of privee will look into that, nothing in Cotics range works for what i need (wanted it to, thought this could be what finally gets me a cotic) and I don't like Stanton, I know, I should, I really should, but they leave me unmoved.

On-one can't help either, and the morph does take the tapered steerer... seriously when you can adapt down why would you not with a new design bike???

Of course the Morf takes a tapered steerer!
(saw it in the flesh at 'Ard Rock and didn't really like it though. The Pace is much nicer.)

It's wrong that I really want one of these isn't it...?

[img] [/img]

And yes, the step through. Makes lots of sense on a bike that's designed to carry a heavy load.

Any ideas of UK pricing for that plastic Reign yet?

I'm hoping it's something stupid.

Just a matter of getting the right headset. You'd struggle to find a new-ish hardtail that doesn't take a tapered fork - although On-One did do a 456 relatively recently that didn't.

Probably 44mm (quite common on all these recent steel hardtails) - so an external cup at the bottom and internal at the top does the trick.
So I'm sure that opens up your frame possibilities now!

I believe so. (I am not an aerodynamicist)

*If it's not a trademark already, I'm on to it!

don't use the fact that you not an aerodynamicist in the marketing blurb for your "aeroriser" - or maybe do 😆

BTW that Anthem had a Nobby Nic on the front and a Racing Ralph on the back...is that a recommended set up?

Ralph is a good racy XC tyre. New Nic is a bit less rubbish than all the previous Nics, but still pretty rubbish. Straight line grip is moderately poor, cornering grip exceedingly poor (I was looking at mine the other day just thinking "why aren't the edge knobs at the edge?"), rolling resistance tolerable..

Oh....that conflicts with the previous post. Anyway, just bought a magic mary for my front wheel which will go on when the rains return! Currently have two Ralphs on the Anthem which seem great on everything dry so far.

I was pretty keen on replacing my 5 with a reign..
But then I saw the Anthem for 2017..
SX gets 130mm travel forks, dropper post. One piece carbon rocker for the rear shock and Trunnion mounts.
Ok not the nicest looking paint scheme, but this should still be up to trail centre use rather than just an XC bike.
Advanced gets 120mm forks

Maybe it's time to sell my 26" Anthem.

I seem to remember seeing a rumour that Giant were going to be launching a new FS XC race bike (100mm 29er), to go along with the trailisation of the Anthem.. anyone seen anything??

Not for the colour scheme, and certainly not for the dropper post, but look how low that BB is... and 480mm width bars... Finally!

Only this:

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/global/anthemrange

Note up to 120mm and no 29er, So I'm guessing there will be a new 100mm bike with a new name, replacing the old Anthem 29er. I'm hoping my now vintage Anthem 29er goes up in value 🙂

Yeh do it, be absolutely mint. Stick an old 7800 groupset on it though; better than the ****ing state that is the 2017 stuff.....
