On the turbo/ commuter bike.

Changed the 10spd 12-30 cassette to a 11-32. The short cage 105 is struggling a bit, unsurprisingly....

Dual ring 50/34 front.

Want to fit this Alivio shadow 9 speed rear mech.

https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/shimano-alivio-m4000-shadow-9-speed-rear-mech/rp-prod119987

It has a total capacity of 45t. More than enough. 9 speed MTB mech, so.... Works ok with the 10 speed 105 shifters, right???

Cheers for the purchase check guys!

10spd road shifters will pull a 9spd mech perfectly, either road or mtb.
I’ve used 105 sti 10spd with a 9spd mech.

Might be too late, but that mech is cheaper at SJS, £26.

Only a few quid, but personally, besides the savings I like giving business to the non-commercial "giants" where possible.

I'm not that clued up on compatibility, so worth verifying if 8-speed mechs will work on 9-speed ( https://bike.bikegremlin.com/1278/bicycle-rear-derailleur-compatibility/ suggests they might), if so then the RD-M310 can be had for no more than £15 (it's what came with my 2x8 Wazoo fatbike) https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-parts/gears-drivetrain-cables/shimano-rd-m310-altus-sgs-rear-derailleur-black
