installed a 10 speed set up on my hemlock about a month ago, used the m785 cranks, both chain rings are very close to the chain stay, around 2mm gap between them, i have not noticed the chain or anything snag in here but there are some small dents in the chainstay now were something has gone between them.
the gap between the centre tube and the inner chain ring is around 45 and the centre and the outer ring is approx 55mm ( just measured in a dark, small shed with 4 bikes in so could be slightly off) with 40/28 rings.
is this normal? can i move the chain rings out by putting one of the shimano spacers between the frame and bottom bracket cup?
not sure if my issue is because of this but I am having issues selecting the larger front ring, when pedalling slowly it seems to ride on top of the teeth before is seats down onto them, pedalling fast and under load then shifting up on the front will cause the chain to derail and scratch up my new crank arms!
