I'm new to Fox forks. I'd read the horror stories about premature failure of the stanchions put it down to neglect. I lifted the seals on my 36 Talas forks to clean the seals today & the foam rings were almost dry. My fork has had approx 10 hours of use since new.

Does anyone else bother lubing the foam rings ? or am I being paranoid ?

D.

Do you store the bike on it's wheels? It's recommended to store them upside down so the oil can run down and soak into the foam rings when not in use. Do a lower leg service on them to check the oil levels in there, I put about twice the suggested amount in so they need doing less often.

Just turn the bike upside down for ten mins before every ride. Allows the oil to run past the bushes and into the foam rings.

Intrigued ๐Ÿ™‚ What's involved ?

I've been putting the bike upside down as soon as it comes off the car prior to riding. I can't see how this would allow oil into the foam rings as there's an air tight seal between them & the internals. Seems to make sense for the bushes though.

Many thanks, Dave.

It works because there are ports for the oil to lubricate the bushes for the hydrodynamic lubrication, and oil can flow past them. There is no such seal until you reach the wipers - the foam rings sit under the wipers and above the bushes.

Is the oil light enough to flow in the weather we have at the moment?

I should think so.
The Fox website has loads of guides on servicing etc.

I did that article which is a modified version of Mojo's. I agree with the 10 min upturning you forks if you want to and I have never knackered my brakes (avid juicy and Hope M4)!! I don't routinely uptuen mine but I do lube the foam rings with float fluid and clean the seals and this seema to sort it - I have never found dry foams - I wonder if these were ever lubed?

Put my Fox 32 Talas forks in for the 20hr service after 60hrs of use, the shop reported everything was still well lubed and clean inside. I do store the bike upside down occasionally and religiously use that Fork Juice stanchion spray.

I do the "lowers" service on my Fox 36 every 6-8 weeks and its kept them running sweet and prevented any damage to the stanchions

get some Fox Float fluid (75 weight)for the foam wipers, and any 7-7.5wt fork oil for the lowers

tools? socket set, allen keys, rubber mallet and clean rags and it takes about 10 minutes with practise

To be fair my new Revs had almost no oil in the lowers, the foam rings were fine though.

I always do my forks from new,The amount of forks that i have had that are bone dry is quite worrying.

I hope my Bos ones will be ok.

If it ever stops snowing and they arrive.
