I'm thinking of picking up a bargain pair of 66 RC2Xs for my Reign X, and swapping the existing 2007 Float 36 RC2s over to my slowly forming SC Chameleon build, buuuuut.....
Could anyone say whether the 66s would improve on the Floats for descending, and much more importantly, answer whether it's easy to find firm springs for the 2006-era 66s?
I did a quick google but didn't find much apart from people saying how nice the 2006 rc2xs are! 🙂
I like them. There nice and plush and reliable. I had some 170mm versions on my old patriot and have just been using some 150mm ones on my hardtail in France.
Id get em if I were you since they are usually quite cheap and are from the best era of marzocchis (probably)
What size travel would you be going for?

Like I said, I think they just use the air preload adjustment to instead of a spring. I work in a shop, so if you want I can phone Windwave on monday and find out for you? I think we have a fork coming from them soon anyway so if they have them it won't take too long to get hold of.
In terms of being a swap for the Foxs, they're similar in many ways but different in others- they're a great big old bouncy fork that's lots of fun, but I'd say they were plusher and more DH focussed than the Float. They feel like a DH fork, not an all mountain fork and they give you a big feeling on invincibility.
Yeh, rolf is right. They are air preload which doesnt semm ideal if you need to stiffen them up loads, but for making small adjustments its ok. Luckily they are usually ok for me without any preload adding.
You need the marzocchi shock pump adaptor to add air to the top of both legs.
And they do feel more like a good old dh fork. They seem to sit into their travel quite abit and dive more under braking than the fox's, but i defintitely prefer the feel of them over my 2006 36 Talas's I had and my mates 2007 36 Talas's
Right, well for about £170 they sound like a goer!
Thanks for all the info, guys. I'm just concerned that firm springs might be impossible to come by, and as I'm 17 stone of pure, rippling beer belly I'll need all the spring I can get. I know the air assist helps, but excessive PSI ruins the silky smooth action from what I've read...

not really true as you don't need to run that much air to firm the forks up. The air assist allows you to supplement the spring strength without spoiling the small bump sensetivity of the fork. The '05s did dive a bit but the '06s have better damping with the RC2x system
I've run the '05s for years and they are a great fork, and a mate who also ran the '05s has been running the '06s for a few months and said they were a big improvement on the '05s.
I changed mine to soft springs, being about 11 and a half stone. No air preload needed personally, the dive is fine and the forks are awesome
