a lot of idiots in cars are going to be walking home, and what will their company say if its a company vehicle.
Good idea, open to abuse, or bad idea, draconian measures etc.

I think the key word there is "could".
Unlikely to actually happen to anyone but it's the sort of media attention grabbing statement that could get the message out there. I've hardly seen any national coverage of the wmp initiative results, so reckon it needs more oomph to get Joe public to take notice.
Wouldn't it be easier to crush their driving license?
Not sure on this one, might be taking it a little too far.
Really approve of the WMP scheme, but would be more in favour of 1 year driving ban before crushing.
Wouldn't it be easier to crush [strike]their driving license[/strike]them?

Speak softly and carry a big stick.
So far, no one is listening, therefore it's time for the stick.
only need a few on a police camera show and the lessons will be learnt by most
Sounds like a great idea. Enforcement though is another thing.
If only we didn't live in free and democratic country - we could crush the drivers..........
Get them on a bike and close pass back - saw it done on a bad driving programme, and the guy went mental. Wasn't a particularly close pass, and it was on a private closed road, but it made him rethink.
Just like the West Midlands Police policy, if it actively follows through on offending drivers, great!
I had an artic pass so close today I could have touched the ****er!
Crush their car AND their first born!

Woo. It doesn't matter all that much if it never actually happens (and I suspect it won't), the message is at least getting out. There's definitely a momentum in the right direction with more of these initiatives, it has to start making a real difference to driver behaviour. The important thing as always is the publicity and the realistic prospect of being caught, not the level of punishment involved - it appears that after the first incident they get a talking to and explained what the potential consequences are, which should make most people change their behaviour a bit.
Get them on a bike
Now, there might be something here..
Speed a little, get offered a speed awareness course instead of points.
Cyclist infringement, offered 2 hrs on a bike in a busy city, or points ?
Would this be a practical option, despite the potential for a course attendee to be killed, while on a bike?
As an aside, I never quite understood this "crush you car" thing - wouldn't it be less wasteful to sell the car and use the money to fund further road safety work (or, if the car is in decent condition, donate it to the notability scheme)
