Build was going sooo well until Paul chain keeper won't work with the frame (down tube etc won't let me get it low enough). No new ride for me tomorrow ๐Ÿ™
Will the MRP 1.x guide work with a square taper bb?

If not I'll have to ditch the middleburns and put my old lx on.

Shame you can't get the Paul's Chain Keeper to work; I think it's an utterly superb product. I had an MRP 1.x for a few weeks... harder to set up, made of cheese - and blocked with mud and woodland debris in an instant.

Sorry, have no experience of square taper.

If the drive side of the bottom bracket has a shoulder on it you should be able to use an ISCG adaptor. Then bolt your guide to that.

I'm using an e.13 XCX with middleburns and it was a bit of a faff to install but works fine now. I had to stick a 2mm spacer between the chainring and the spider to stop it interfering with the guide. From what I've heard the MRP is slightly easier to get right.

I've just found that out in the last week or so with the XCX. It does have a little window in the side to let stuff out (I assume), and it hasn't caused any problems yet, but when I opened it up to clean it after the last ride there was a solid block of mud and grass formed around the chain.

I can't be bothered to faff like that; I'd rather swap the middleburns for an external crankset if it's going to be easier.

I've used the MRP gadget with my UN74 sp taper BB and Middleburn RS8s without any trouble. That was a SS set-up rather than 1x9 though.

Frame bb shell is 73mm, using SKF bb and no spacers. Presume if the MRP fits between bb and frame it will alter the chainline?

Also why did you need the chain device on a ss??

I've got a rohloff chain guide for sale in the classifieds. Has loads of asjustments bit may give you the same issues as the paul as it fixes to the seat tube?

I dunno if it'll work on a 1x9 as well as it does for me, but since going back to 2x9 with a normal deore derailleur I haven't dropped any chains. So you could try that locked off in position (again if it can get low enough)?

68mm BB on mine. Chainline isn't an issue on the SS as I can just move the sprocket around to get it right.
I've got vertical drop-outs. Using an Onza tensioner but with a longer than necessary chain so that I can change ratios if required. The MRP device is just a belt and braces thing.

I had a look at that, but I think I'll have teh same prob. I've run 1x9 in the past with great success, but always on a hardtail which fitted a jump-stop/chain-keeper without probs.
