Changing my HT over to 1X11, gradually, and saw a KMC chain sub £20 for 114 links, however, there is also an 118 link option - I usually get 114 links for it on 9spd but is the larger diameter cassette requiring a 118 links?

I found myself needing a long chain for 1x11 (though I haven't fitted it yet). If you count your current chain you will get an idea. With 1x10, a 28t ring, an 11-42 cassette and a SRAM short-cage mech it has 110 links. I am going to a 11-46, a 30t oval ring and the mech jockey cage will be longer so I couldn't see 114 quite doing it.

ETA do you shorten the 114 at all?

I think you'll be grand with the 114.

I just bought that kmc for a new 1x11 set up, 30 x 42 max, on an XL frame FS bike, I still had to remove links.

FYI the kmc quick link tells you it isn't reusable, they lie! 🙂

If there's no extra cost, go 118.
You'll get an extra bit of spare chain for emergencies.

.... and over time you can make a complete new chain.

I think I bought the exact chain from CRC. Put it on my 1x11 XL Last Fastforward.

30t front ring, max 42 rear cassette ring.

I bought the 114 link chain.

Was looking at it the other day and I could have taken out at least 3 links settled for a chainguide instead and left it as it is.
