1x10 crankset sugge...

[Closed] 1x10 crankset suggestions?

I'm upgrading my old S-Works enduro to a 1x10 and wanted some advice on cranksets.

Is it best to buy a triple such as SLX and add a narrow wide chainring where the Middle ring would sit? Will there be any BCD issues?

Many thanks in advance.

ps, if anyone's looking to sell such a setup, I am open to offers as it were.

Currently running a very old Race Face forged set. They're ok but a bit ugly. The bb is shot anyway.

Tempted Rorschach but a little out of my budget TBH as I'll need a bb too.

Fair does, i was giing to suggest using your own cranks and just buying the ring and mini group.

Go for it Sproker they're a little overkill for my bike although a few onlines have them at around that price (without chainring).

Can anyone recommend a chainring to go with the SLX cranks? Would a triple crankset give better chai line than a double?

Cheers Jon.

A triple is ideal as it puts the chainring bang in the middle, rather than a double. However, a double will look neater as the spider is designed for just one ring in that position. You can get spacers and even little fillers to neaten up,the appearance if you use a triple. The chain line difference isn't huge, but the whole point of a single setup is so you can use the whole spread of the cassette, so a triple will probably work better in lowest gears or at least be easier to set up. You could use spacers between the spider and the ring on a double or some have suggested using the BB spacer on a 73 mm bb on the other side to bring it back inline.

Superstar IO are probably the best value rings out there right now. I'll leave it to others to say whether or not they are the best quality.

Cheers Scapegoat.

Im not overly worried about aesthetics on a 10 year old bike, i just like crips shifting. (I'm a roadie, sorry)
I've already got XT shifter and XT long cage clutched rear mech and chain so I'm ready to go other than the crankset.

I do just have enough budget for an X01 crankset but its feels overkill on a bike that weighs something like 30lbs! I guess a genuine single ring rankest would be the way to go ultimately.

Also what is the BCD for the middle on the triple SLX?

Cheers Jon.

4x104. Same as the outer as they are bolted either side of the spider.

104bcd on Slx so all of the big players have a ring to fit.

Rorschach - if GXP and black I'm very interested in your crank too, emails in my profile but clearly I'm last in line!

Just ordered an SLX triple with BB and Hope 32t retainer ring for £99 from Merlin with 10% off.

Looking forward to getting stuck in and simplifying my ride.

I'm going to need some shorter bolts I expect, any ideas?

BTW fellas, is a long cage going to be too big for a 1x10? I'll be using an 11-34 & 32 up front
