Evening All,
Tried to put a 185mm rotor on my Carbon 456 and with a 185mm adapter there was still not enough room and wheel wouldnt go back on.

Used an old 160mm rotor and a 180mm adapter for the moment. I guess I need to go up an adapter size.

Does that sound right (Juicy 5 brakes by the way).

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Rgds

Think the suggested maximum rotor size for the rear of the 456C is only 160mm anyway.
No room for anything bigger.

Ah, that would make sense then. Shame it doesnt state the spec on the website. Then again I should have checked I guess.

Many thanks!

No worries, I think I read it on the website *somewhere*.
I'm a fan of big rotors but 160 on the back doesn't seem to be a problem
when you can chuck a dinner plate on the forks.

I'm running 180mm rear rotors on my c456, with no issues at all. Using superstar rotors and adaptors. Are you sure you're using the correct adaptors.

Also I really doubt 160mm is the max rotor size for the rear. I'd be comfortable using 203's if I needed them. There is plenty of strength and rigidity in the rear to cope with a little braking force.

Phoned On-One.
I need a different drop out moving the caliper from inside the frame to the outside. The standard one will only go up to 160 which is why I was having problems. Should be sorted next week :o)

Thanks all.

Not necessarily, I'm running Avid 180's on my C456 using the inside mounts.

What size is the adapter then as a 185 wouldnt do it on my juicy 5's?

Interesting avid adapters must be unlike others. Have covered all bases by ordering new drop out and more adapters. Could go down in history as most expensive rotor upgrade ever. U would have thought these things would have been straight forward in this day and age

variflex - excuse me for asking the bleeding obvious - are you sure you've got rear 185 rear adapters and not 185 fronts?

I'm sure you'll tell me to bugger off and teach someone else to suck eggs but just in case.

i was thinking what he said remember it is 20 mm smaller on the rear than on the front
eg 203 front. 183 rear
180 front 160 rear

using the same adapter

Yes, tried 160 and 180 IS to post rear adapters, both shimano.
Will try a 200 next and/or the new rear drop out thats already in the post.

Thanks for all the help, will get there in the end. Glad it can be done and I havent wasted the cash on a rotor I cant use.

Fwiw Im pretty sure avid adapters are different from other types.
They are thinner to account for the extra cup and cone washers avid include between adapter and frame/fork.
