Looking for some decent tyres to replace the stock crap (Kenda K-Rad 16x2.125) that came on my son's bike.. There fine on tarmac etc, but useless off road..

Naturally id go for schwalbe black shark.. But not the best for tar Mac..
Need something in between I think..

Conti explorer?

Any recommendations?

Secondly how much weight could I save with a new set of wheels? Obviously I need to weigh the ones he's already got, but assuming there cheap standard set of £15 each wheels..

Shwalbe black jack if you can find them. Or Specialized roller.
You can save a bunch of weight if you build your own wheels. Not many light off the shelf options available.
Hubbspacing is likely odd too, 110mm front and rear?
I built a 16" set for a 20" frame on slx hubs with velocity aeroheat rims, alienation spokes. Pretty light but expensive considering.
