Need a new hub for the rear but wondered if there is any point moving to 142x12.
My trek already runs the abp one ended skewer job, but wonder if it really be stiffer to buy the conversation kit?

Unless your bike has 142x12 dropouts then no.. I think the advantage of 142x12 over 135x12 was more down to making it easier to fit the wheel (as it slots into the dropout like a QR wheel would) rather than extra stiffness.
