I've got an old 1970's steel roadie frame that i want to get back on the road but the current wheels are borked.
Going to use it as a town bike and I'm planning to run it 1x5 as there are some hills around here and i'm not a fan of singlespeed
Looking round i can get a fairly cheap set of 130mm freewheel wheels that would do the job and have seen mention online of people running them in 126mm frames. I just wanted to see if someone has done this themselves
My mate does... It works apart from pulling to the right a bit.
I've put all sorts of wrong sized hubs in the back of my 70's raleigh falcon. No problem. The only time I have had to make changes is to the rear brake drop to reach a 700c rim.

Will be fine, it's only an extra 2mm on each side. I've run a 135 axle in a 130mm frame before no problems, especially as it's steel which will happily flex a little.
You may need to pull the rear drop-outs apart so it will fit more easily - this is called 'Cold-setting'.

It's a 27" wheel frame and in need of new brakes, wheels, headset and bottom bracket.
I'm planning on going to 700c with some long drop brakes and new levers.
Rear derailiuer is very old but good enough for what i need with a friction shifter
