A mate is buying my Black Forest and wants to run 120mm forks. Has anybody else done this?

Also has anybody done it on a a similar bike? What are the issues? I am seeing:

It feels wrong because of geometry

Id be interested in folks opinions on this too. Im looking at putting 120mm on a stumpy HT. Can always reduce the travel if a wanted to later though i suppose

Just put 120mm SID on my 100mm Ironhorse bootleg.
So far so good, still super quick through singletrack but seems better on decents.

However some of this will be going from a tora fork to an SID.

Geometry wise bike still feels very similar, I too was concerned, but works great.

It would depend on whether the axle to crown length of the respective forks are different but, generally slacker head angle, slower (or more stable) handling and slightly raised bottom bracket height would be the main effects. Whether your frame would still be covered by warranty is another matter.

It will be fine, do it.

If you ride over a 2cm high rock your geometry will be the same as with a 100mm fork.

It's only 2 cm!

Not quite the same thing, but I put a 100mm fork on my non-suspension corrected Stumpjumper (it is that old!) and it took a few changes to get the position dialled in, but it didn't overly upset the geometry.
