hi - are 12 speed chainrings the same as 11 speed?
can you use a race face chainring with sram chain and cassette, or is there something special about the sram chain ring?

Google suggests yes - same internal dimensions for 12-speed versus 11-speed chain. SRAM says not to use the Eagle chain with earlier chainrings, but there seem to be a fair few people out there doing just that. The Eagle chain looks interesting, supposedly re-engineered internal contours to reduce chain noise.
Edit: the pukka Eagle chainrings are apparently redesigned, but as above, there are people out there using 12-speed chains on 11-speed rings.
My Eagle is on an old 10-speed narrow wide, it works just fine. Apparently the eagle ring is particularly good but not so much because it's 12 speed, just because it's ace.
I have found with Shimano 11 speed that the Eagle front ring runs quieter in the extreme ends of the cassette.
