While I've been waiting for the new 12 speed SLX/XT to appear, I've been going over it in my head.
I've got the idea that I could go for mostly 11 speed XTR for similar money (bargain hunting etc.).
I don't really need to 51t gear, but I do like the Eagle on my Scott for long days out. I'm thinking for my trail bike, an XT 11-46 would be plenty with a 32t front ring.
I've never had XTR on any bike I've ridden. I suppose the upside is that it'll be lighter than 12 speed SLX with an XT shifter. Also, I won't have to buy another freehub as I've got a spare DT Swiss HG here.
I guess my question is, coming from fairly worn/old 11 speed Sram GX, would 11 speed XTR be a nice upgrade?
