When I'm in my LBS asking for an 11-speed quick link I get asked "mountain or road?". I say mountain as I've a XT drivechain, but just remembered that CRC did a bundle with a roadie-branded Shimano 11-speed chain. So is there any difference as far as the chain is concerned? I'm aware that road 11-speed have deeper cassettes but is that the only difference?

Chain is a chain, unless it's a symmetrical road one (like the early 6700's)

Yeah I think they're possibly trying to confuse me, or hearing "11 speed" and immediately asking road or mountain before realising it doesn't actually matter.

10 speed there is a difference. Whether or not it makes any difference.
