[Closed] 100mm XC full susser frame options

As I have mentioned before I am after a short travel XC frame to swap all the bits over from my carbon hard tail (100MM SIDS, FULL XO etc).

So far I am looking at these options, in no particular order

Turner flux
Santa Cruz Superlight
Giant Anthem X Advanced (or regular alloy)
Santa Cruz Blur XC carbon

As you can see a vast range in prices, but what else should I be looking at? No preference carbon or alloy, only thing is I am limited with what I have in terms or colours (red/black SIDS, SRAM X.0 & elixirs is red etc) - not very original I know....

So you don't care what it is, or what's its made of, as long as it colour matches your forks? 🙄

I fear advice may be a little wasted...

I swapped all my xc gear over to a flux (I had 100mm sids too)

I've since changed to reba team 120mm fork which are amazing - but the sids where great too.

CRC have exceptional deals on 09 and 10 flux frames at the moment.

superlight has good geometry but the suspension system is very lossy compared to the flux and you have to play with propedal - whereas you don't on the flux.

giant maestro works well but falls short of the stiffness and solidity of the flux, althought the frame will be about 1lb lighter.

dunno about the blur.

.....of course I CARE what it is, just wanted to know what my options are for 100mm travel XC frames, Colour isnt a huge issue as I can re-sticker the sids etc. But if the frame was black for instance it would be "nice".

So any other frames I should add to the short list?

I used to own a superlight and it was a really good all rounder. I'd agree with TurnerGuy that the suspension is not as efficient as some, but it is simple and cheap to keep. I had mine for 4 years and never had to change the bearings, although the shock bushes used to wear.

I test rode a blur when i was looking for a replacement and didnt really get on with it. That could be down to set up as it was only an hour ride. In the end I replaced it with a titus racer x which was sharper handling bike. If you like a stiff frame with great climbing traction, I would recommend that to add to your list. I have "three dabbed" jacobs ladder on it which is the best ive managed on that techy climb. On one were selling some cheap with monarch shocks or i have one in the FS forum if you are a medium! Either way, its a well sorted design.

Ive not ridden the others you mention but i have never heard a bad thing said about turners. I think the flux is a bit heavy for a 4" frame, but I guess it depends what your preferences are whether that bothers you or not.

A friend recently picked up a Giant Anthem.. seems really happy with it and he's certainly fast on it!

Epic
Top Fuel
Spark (technically now 120mm, but in the same vain as t'others)
ASR-SLc or ASR-C
Racer X

In many of those cases it'd be cheapest to buy a complete bike and sell what you don't want - the prices of the first 3 particularly for frame only are exorbitant!

£600 for a 2009 flux on CRC atm, and 800 for a 2010 flux...

they may be a little heavier than say, a giant, but it is pretty obviously justified if you compare them back-to-back and look at how well the suspension works and how stiff they are.

I'd say one of those bargain Flux's too.

My mates superlight ain't exactly super light and rides great with 130mm DT forks, reckon it might be a bit steep with 100mm one on there

I like the way my Superlight handles with 100mm Rebas on, have done loads of XC and endurance racing on it over the past 4 years. I also find the suspension tracks the ground superbly on technical climbs.

Having said that, its not the lightest bike around.

organic355 - I've got a 2011 SC Blur XC Carbon (matt black) and it's the best bike I've ever ridden, got it set up with 2011 Fox F120RLC FIT Kashima forks and aswell as the 22.5 lb weight (19.5lbs on certain people's scales...;-)) making it a great xc race bike it's also an absolute hoot with the 120mm forks on, supremely competent 'trail' bike - the frame isn't far off the stiffness levels of my old 2006 Demo 8 DH bike! :-O

I'd very highly recommend it but the 2012 colours / graphics are utterly crap if that's important to you! 😉

Those cheaper turners are tempting esp the 2010 seeing as wiggle still has them for £1327 (compared to £800).

These are the prices I have looked up for the others on the list so far, unless anyone knows of cheaper?

Giant Anthem X £959.00
Santa Cruz Superlight £999.00
Yeti ASR Carbon £1,699.00
Turner flux 2011 £1,800.00 (2010/£800)
Giant Anthem X advanced £2,280.00
Santa Cruz Blur XC carbon £2,499.00

Think I will have to rule out the last 2 as I cant justify that much, unless the are below the £2k mark anywhere?

Anyone know what the turner flux copper looks like in the flesh? or the raw?

I suppose I could consider the 2009 model and just get it re-sprayed? How much does that cost roughly?

the black forks look best especially with the black rockers, seat tube & bars!

my old sids where black - the new silver rebas dont look half as good (but they where only £310 so I could refuse)

sounds like you like your bikes to look nice - get the raw because it has no paint to chip or scratch - the copper is a nice colour.

I got a tescos card with 18months free credit (less than £100 a month) 😉

I'm sure she will be able to see that 60% off is a good deal

the 09 fluxes suffered 'some' cracks near the rear shock mount and the taco joint was changed, so it would be safer to go for the 10.

You would be crazy to be a superlight or anthem X frame when the turner was cheaper.

which is nicer the silver or the raw turner? looks like on the raw the rear swing arm doesnt match which is a bit odd?

also if i am thinking about re-spraying is raw a better option, or is it still coated?

also which size is which?

Currently riding a small (17") giant XTC composite, so do i need a 17" Turner? and thats a medium?

Yet another question to which the answer is Canyon

QTWTAIC

I've only ridden Canyon Lux MR, bought the complete bike. For a bit of XC racing but mostly marathon/multi-day it has been great.

Do you have a race license? If you do you can get a frame under their sponsorship programme for £1200 rather than £1470.

Giant Anthem X £959.00

For the Alu Frame? You can get last years full bike in X5 flavour from pedal on cycles for less than that.

the frame comes with an RP23 I think, not a Monarch as on the X5.

How tall are you, organic355?

I am 5ft 10 and that is the top limit for a medium I think - I use a 110mm stem.

5' 7" - 5' 8" on a good day 🙂 Think medium seems about right.

when are the 2012 models out? thinking when the 2011s will be on sale?

I know which I'd buy out of those 3 having ridden them all & it ain't the Flux.

And that's the crux of it, there's probably not a bad bike in any of the suggestions made so far but that doesn't mean they're all right for you. I'd always recommend swinging a leg over as many as you can before deciding although, in this instance, you could buy the Turner as you'd probably get your money back if you didn't like it & put the frame on fleabay.

I'd go with the same list as NJEE if it were my money.
