Happening on both my zee and slx 10 speed shifts. When I change to go up the gears the lever is not returning. Is it something that is easily rectified or is it a new shifter job. Weirdly when I change back down the gears using he other lever it shifts the lever that is sticking back wheee it should be. Causing more of an issue when climbing as changing up and up and up and the lever is just sticking further and further down

I've never personally witnessed this but I've read various reports of Shimano shifters (road and MTB ) "gumming up" as the factory lubrication is a bit thick and gets thicker. The suggested solution is to steam the shifters to get rid of the old lube and then spray something much lighter in.

As I say - I've never had to do this, just passing it on.

Cheers mate appreciate the help. I'll give it a go see how it work. I have sprayed a bit of gt85 but hasn't made better or worse really.

Possibly* a stiff cable - the little lever needs tension on the cable to flip back into position. Try applying tension by pulling on the section of outer cable next to the shifter to see if that makes the lever work OK.

*For a certain definition of "up" and "down"

Pull it all out, spray through the outers and a new inner (a stainless one is only a couple of quid) and should be right. If that doesn't work then outers too.

I'd change the cable to be honest. It's surprising how bad they can get without you really noticing.

Thought it had done the trick pulling on the outer and worked a few time but happening again sticking after changing inner and spraying gt85 down the hose. Maybe a new shifter then

Worth checking that your shifter's not being distorted by being pressed against the brake lever, don't see it very often, but has caused a few problems before.

Pulling the outer was only to check if the cable was the problem - sounds like it is. Squirting GT85 probably isn't going to sort it. I'd change the cable (inner & outer), especially if it's over a year old, but also check that the rear mech is moving freely with the cable disconnected - that would give the same symptoms if it was (partially) seized.

If the shifter clicks up and down ok with no cable in it then it's not the shifter.

It's the shifter guys. Took everything off clicker wasn't returning. Bought new inner and outer so fitted anyways and still no joy. Sound like new shifter. I've got shimano slx brakes that the shifter is attached to. Is this called I spec? Cheers

A squirt of spray oil and then holding the cable(freed from the outer) in your hand to act like a really powerful return spring. Click back and forth holding up the pressure.

Its weird that you have the problem on two different shifters.

Sorry mate you are correct. The zee is on another bike but this was quickly resolved just changing the inner cable but can't seem to fix this one. Maybe I'm pushing them too hard or something hahaaa
