I have been toying with the idea for a while now so decided to give it a try yesterday - just didn't use the granny ring. 20 mile route that included a climb out of Hope up the Roman RD to hope cross, Rowlee Farm climb, and the Forestry climb up to Wooller Knoll. WHilst i appreciate that these are not technically hard they are steep and long drags.
The only Ladybower climb that i think may cause a problem is the slabs up to the barn onto Whinston lee tor, but saying that i have only cleaned that twice anyhow.
32/36 is like 22/24 isn't it? Bike is a nomad so i am in no great rush to get to the top.
Anyone else do 1 * 10 in the area? Miss the Granny? Opinions?
I run 1 x 8
never had a problem that I didn't already have with 3 x 9
what ratios?
I regularly run 1x9 (36t 11-34) around that/a very similar loop and the only time I have to get off is for that slab climb you mention.
It's not so bad, just takes a bit of getting used to.
32:18
It's on an alfine so the 18 gives me as near as dam it the same spread as a standard nine speed cassette
Will stick with not changing gear for a few weeks to see how i get on - then MAY ditch the granny, mech, and shifter - replace with chain device.
i ride the same places with 1x10 just fine, except those slabs up to the barn like everyone else.
I got up the slabs to the barn on 33-19 (but a little bit of wee came out) ๐
Failed the next bit though ๐
I'm still using 3*10 ๐ I don't see the point of loosing gears as I use them all, but if you aint using them why have them ๐
