Having seen some pretty cheap XT brakes on ebay I am considering changing my old XT's for the newer ones but have read a few pretty gaff reviews (mainly from the US)so before I waste my cash can anyone recommend these?

I love them.

Have a friend who has tried pretty much every brake manufacturer and swears by them.

Yes. Lever feel is sharper and mmore adjustable than the old XTs and the power is up. Wonderful brakes.

I have 08 on one bike and 09 on another bike, prefer the 09 brakes but can't really fault the 08's!
Prefer the XT brakes to Avid's I had in the past.

08 and 09 are the same brakes. I have a set and they are very good indeed. I had a set of LX and a set of the pre-servowave XT which were reliable stoppers but the current ones just feel better.

Mine are a bugger to bleed.

i've not had to bleed mine yet, so cant comment on that but they are very nice feeling brakes, they dont give you that sharp stopping feel some brakes give but much more useful feeling of stoping power all the way through the lever pull, really useful control through singletrack

I found them pretty easy to bleed. They need doing from out of the box, but once bled and set up, very reliable. Good power, good feel, and very un-fussy. After 8 years of using Hopes , i finally lost patience with them, bought shimanos and never regretted it. Go for it!
