I have an 06 Endurpo that I love. I'd like tpo sell mu current 07 150mm Talas forks and get the now slick 180mm ones that are coming out.

Could anyone shine some light on whether this will be ok or put too much stress on the frame? I know it won't climb as well, though I can lock them out at 140mm and they are lighter than my current ones.

I like my bike to go down as well as up but hate the idea of having a DH bike that is limited to lift access trails.

Anyway there we go, any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Angus

I've got 170mm Marzocchi 66s on my 06 Enduro and it's ok so far, not sure how much longer the Fox 180s are, if at all

I've had and am now building back up a 06 Enduro, running the same forks I think as you. Personally I don't think the new 180mm fox would work. Although they do look amazing! For me I think it would jack the front end up too much. Maybe you could run loads of sag but its a lot of money to fork out (he he) to try. With them being Talas you can shorten up the travel but I think that's a waste IMO. There is a bloke on here selling a set of new Van's after finding out a similar problem.? If you do go for it let us know how you get on!

Thanks for the advice guys, If I go for it it'll be next summer so hopefully i'll know more then. I'll let you know otherwise and if I hear of anyone who has done it. As you said its a lot of money to 'put' (couldn't do it) out for something that doesn't work and feels awkward.

I'll have a search for the vans for sale and contact him too.

Cheers

get the bigger/longer rear shock shuttle, and that will increase the head angle once more, to compensate for the longer fork.
It will of course raise the bottom bracket, but some say they are too low on spesh bike to start with.

that should offset the issue.

Hi Lardman,

A longer eye length rear) shock (is that the same thing as a longer/bigger shuttle? will increase increase the head angle? Im quite new to biking 'seriously' so I didn't know that, I would have thought it was the other way around. Thats interesting though thanks for the tip I'll look into that!

Cheers

I tried my enduro with 170mm Marz 66s (595mm A to C height) and it was a bit much. The fox 180s are probably shorter than the Marzocchis though

The 06 enduro has a steep (slack for 2006) head angle. 68.5 or 69.5 (withe the then 150mm 36 fork) degrees depending on what shock shuttle you had. So is still steeper than the '10 bike if you fitted the 180 36's. So I recon it would work fine.

It will still be a shite climber as the seat angle is way too slack for easy climbing. However it may be slightly more shite at climbing now. I recon your not using it for climbing though with that setup!

I can empathise with what you're trying to do. I owned an enduro for five years and rode it in a few down hill events. It was extremely capable with a 160mm fork but I always wanted it to be more of a dh bike. In the end I bought a demo 8.

I don't think you're going to get a bike that is more capable of going downhill by bolting on a 180mm fork. Personally I think you'll just upset the balance of the bike which is about perfect as it is. Raking out the headangle on it's own is not the route to better handling especially as you'll raise the bottom bracket by a big amount which will act against the stability of reducing the ha.

The later models of enduro sx had very different geometry, they weren't just slacker head angles; they had adjustments to all areas of the frame to balance it up.

hey sluff...

You can get a longer shock too, if you get a coil DHX, or something like that. Mojo do an aftermarket one that will retro fit, and it gives an extra inch (almost) travel. That will balance it up too.

The shock shuttle i spoke of, is the bit of triangulated machined ali, that fits between the downtube, and the top end of the shock. Most frames came with the short, and the long.. (well mine did).

I'd sell you the long one, but i'm using it. With a 150mm fork too, as i like the handling nice and twitchy.

Just a subtle bump to see if anyone has tried this or is thinking about it?
