E Pace? No, not a new Jag but the Pace 170e eMTB

Pace goes full eeb with the Shimano EP8 powered Pace 170e boasting coil suspension, 170mm travel and huge 726Wh battery!

When Hannah published this article about which brands hadn’t launched an eMTB yet she managed to miss off Britain’s own Pace Cycles. Those who know, know that Pace isn’t shy of cutting edge technology. Remember back in the day when they made carbon fibre suspension forks? What about gold stanchions before Kashima became cool, not to mention those square tubed alloy dream machines.

In the modern era of mountain biking, Pace has still shown us that it knows how to push the envelope with ultra-progressive steel hardtails, and carbon fibre full-suspension trail bikes.

Today we see what Pace can do when they combine their passion for mountain biking with the latest eMTB tech! Meet the Pace 170e, an alloy eMTB that should be launched sometime next year. The bike shown here is a prototype large bike with the type of geo numbers that we associate with Pace’s hardcore hardtails. Reach on this proto is a generous 504mm, while the front end is a slack 63-degrees and the seat-tube a comfy 78-degrees.

For their first eMTB, Pace has gone the Shimano route with an EP8 motor, but the battery comes from an unknown manufacturer with a huge 726Wh capacity! Amazingly Pace has sourced a large capacity battery that’s physically shorter than a 625Wh battery. Keeping that massive battery cool is an adjustable radiator vent(?). We’re not sure where this is located and how it adjusts but it sounds like a neat feature.

To be fully on-trend the Pace 170e should have the ability to run either 29in wheels or a mullet set up and it does, thanks to a flip-chip located at the rear shock, and because this bike has a monster battery Pace have fitted the 170e with powerful LED lights to keep you motoring into the night!

170mm of front and rear wheel travel is controlled by coil springs front and rear thanks to Marzocchi, and to protect the EP8 motor while monster trucking down the trail, a pair of carbon fibre Rockguardz have been custom designed for the 4 bar alloy machine.
