The big bike of the Giant range becomes electrified for 2020 with the release of the new Giant Reign E+ e-MTB.
Last week saw the launch of the new Giant Reign, not today it’s the release of the Giant Reign E+, the motorised version of the 160mm travel Reign enduro bike.

Giant’s Reign uses its Maestro suspension platform for 160mm of active travel regardless of uphill or downhill riding, but in on the Reign E+ you have a Yamaha motor to help you with the ups.
The motor system is an updated version of the SyncDrive Pro motor with 80Nm of power on tap that uses a 6 sensor Smart Assist technology which ensures natural and progressive power transfer. Running the new motor is an EnergyPak 500 battery with 500Wh of capacity. While this isn’t as much as other brands the system does support fast charging and just 60min of charging is enough to charge the battery to 80%.
Giant has retained an ALUXX SL frame for the Reign, and when you look at the bike it’s impressive to see that they’ve made a 160mm travel e-MTB look like a regular bike despite the large motor and internal battery.

How long will it take to bash that motor belly flat? Do they not think of such things?
The more you ride this, the more YOUR belly will hang down. As for Giant, I gotta believe they put a very thick plastic slider on the belly made from the same stuff motorcycle skid plates are made from. The plastic will slide nicer over rock than metal and the extra weight of a thick skid plate don’t matter ’cause it’s a MOTOR is carrying the blossoming rider and vehicle weight.
“80Nm of power on tap” nope was my first thought too!
