Megasack Giveaway Day 4: DT Swiss EX 1700 Wheelset

by 18

It’s the fourth day of our Megasack giveaway. It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. Today’s prize is another good ‘un: a set of DT Swiss EX 1700 wheels worth over £750!

DT Swiss EX 1700 Wheelset

Now these are a great set of wheels. I can personally testify as much; I’ve had a pair on my bike for most of the year and they’ve been perfect. They particularly impressed me at the Naughty Northumbrian Enduro in August (read all about that epic experience: Death By Enduro – A Survivalist Tale).

What are these EX 1700 wheels then? A combination of DT’s EX 511 rims laced on to 350 ratchet hubs via straight pull, butted Competition spokes The rear hub features DT’s Swiss-made 36-tooth SL ratchet, offering a 10 degree engagement angle; “the optimum balance of rapid engagement, low pedal kickback and long-term reliability.”

21mm depth, 35mm external width and 30mm internal width. The latter gives an ideal platform for 2.3 to 2.5in tyres.

DT’s custom extrusions beef up the edge of the rim. PHR system nipples remove stress risers and improve overall wheel stiffness. Weight per pair of 1,886 grams (27.5in) or 1,978 grams (29in).

As one of the few manufactures of hubs, rims and spokes, the DT 1700’s hubs and rims are designed from the ground up for DT’s widely available straight pull, butted Competition spokes and designed as a system to offer superlative ride quality.

As a pair they include tubeless rim tape and tubeless valves.

I’d love to help, but I like the idea of keeping the odds more in my favour.

My god! I’m surrounded by old deaf men 😂 I could do with a new set of wheels. You lot are hoping for a Specsavers ‘all senses’ voucher in tomorrow’s draw.

I turned up the volume on my very good PC speakers and still got it wrong (maybe), I thought Hannah said “Course”! Of course the H word fitted better, but I thought it might have been a deliberate mistake. Anyway I don’t need a new set of wheels.

I wonder if they will accept either spelling of the last word.
