Singletrack Membership Price Increase – A Heads Up

by 41

As I mentioned in this article, we are under a great deal of financial pressure due to the rate of inflation driving up costs across the board. Also, the cost of living crisis we are all facing is not conducive to increased spending on things like mountain bike mag memberships. Totally understandably these things don’t generally appear at the top of people’s priority lists when household budgets start to get hammered. In that article from August I said I wanted to get ahead of future problems by telling you in plenty of time so that when things get bad you guys don’t say things like, ‘Why didn’t you say something sooner?’. In that spirit I’m giving you a heads up that as much as we have tried to avoid putting our prices up, we unfortunately have to do just that.

That’s the bad news, but there is a bit of good news.

Prices are going up on the 30th November for new members only. If you are already a member or become a member before the 30th November then your annual cost will be fixed for the next 12 months. You will not pay any more than you do now at your next renewal.

For those of you paying monthly your regular payment will increase to the new monthly price early in the new year.

So, my advice..

  • If you are currently a monthly member then upgrade yourself to annual and you will avoid the increase for 12 months.
  • If you are thinking about becoming a full member then do it before the 30th November and avoid the increase.
  • If you are an existing member then thank you for you continued support and you can relax. You won’t be paying any more for at least a year.

We still have a couple of really great deals on memberships too, so make sure you grab one of those when you sign up.

Those new prices:

Membership TypeCurrent PriceNew Price 30th Nov+
Print & Digital3945
Digital Only2025
Monthly Digital3.994.99

Hannah as also just reminded me that if you join us before the 25th November then your first issue will be the December issue which comes with our annual free wall calendar.

And now Amanda has just reminded me that the December issue will be getting a design refresh. I’ve seen some of the features already and it’s looking very good indeed.

Three Special Membership Offers

We have not one, nor two, but three great membership offers for you. Pick the one that suits your needs or desires most, and you will not only get in before the price increase, but also get a great deal too.

All of these offers are good for the new annual print or annual digital membership. Simple add the code as you checkout.

  • Half Price: Use code “Hello50” and you will get your first year at half price. That is half the current/lower price.
  • Free Timber Bell worth £27.99: Discount code “Freebell05” will add the bolt on variation of the rather brilliant Timber Bell to your order free of charge. Click here for more info about the Timber Bell.
  • Free Singletrack Pom Pom Hat: Use code “pompom01” and we will pop one of our new Singletrack Sorbet coloured pom pom hats in the post to you. It isn’t getting any warmer for quite some time, or maybe it’s one Christmas present ticked off your list.

How successful was your August appeal?

FWIW If I go to the https://www.singletrackworld.com/account/ page, none of the menu options work for me so I can’t check my subscriptions, change preferences, billing/shipping address, see payment options etc. (Yes, I’m clicking on the faint white arrow on the pale grey bar).

Just a thought… Are you on Direct Debit for your payment?

I need to renew, anyway to pay the increased price now?

The new prices won’t be active until the 30th November. Until then they stay as they are.

I’m happy to pay the increased price now, feel free to bump me to the new price for the rest of my subscription.

none of the menu options work for me

Nor for me, although if you right-click on them and “open in new tab” that does work. Looks like a bug.

Not at all surprised. I just got a letter from the other MTB mag I subscribe to (Velo Vert) to say that they are moving from 11 issues per year to 4.

    Doesn’t work here either.

    Safari Version 13.1.3 (15609.4.1) on macOS v 10.15.7

    Works great on the iPhone.

Price increase seems more than reasonable. I’m off to your shop to see what I can buy from there…

Not as well off as I’ve been in years past, but I appreciate what STW brings, so a monthly digital is a small price to pay.

I assume the lovely freebies apply to brand new customers only and not existing?

Sorry but yeah, we can offer the freebies to new members. We’d need to buy in stock in the thousands otherwise.

Quick question. If I buy an annual subscription for a mate as a gift, does the free gift apply too? It’d be my details I guess paying for it. Can think of a few people that I’d do that for and can double up the gift each time (so they get sub plus hat for instance)

I’m also happy to pay new full rate too

I’ve put my regular coffee sub on hold and have been buying from you.

Tempted to switch to the coffee+subscription next time but I don’t like the deadline coffee, any chance of adding Ride & Shine?

@leffeboy… I haven’t taken any great pictures of the hat yet, so hadn’t added it to the shop. I will do that now… and quickly get some pictures in the morning.

@charliedontsurf – and it’s up already, fantastic work.  I’ve now just got to work out where to get it posted to.  I suspect your website isn’t IOSS registered as last time the Belgian post charged me an extra 20EUR for the privilege of receiving stuff from you.   Just got to find a friendly family member who is coming over soon and can carry it instead

    Thanks for that

    +1

That said, do Kircaby Roasters still exist anyway?  A quick google suggests otherwise and ‘Kirkby Lonsdale Coffee Roasters’ have a different quite limited range.

@jsync As Mark said… The special offers are for new members only… and we try and find the right balance of incentive. We want to keep existing members happy, and we need to attract new members too. So….

Members get a very special price on both the Timber Bells and Pom Pom Hats, and almost everything else in the merch store…. and free UK delivery too.

Just ordered myself a sub and a very nice Pom Pom hat. I really only lurk here – but I lurk most days and I am sure that I have had more than £20 in valuable advice over the last 12 months, so more than happy to support the finances.

I’m struggling to get the digital by annual payment? As others have said the forum alone is worth paying £20.

@Mark it looks like you have two accounts pages, https://singletrackworld.com/account/ and https://singletrackworld.com/my-account/

At first the https://singletrackworld.com/account/ didn’t have any ‘Payment methods’ option. It looked like this:

After emailing you subs department they included the ‘my-account’ link in the automatic reply where I was able to update the payment options.

Then, really strangely, the ‘Payment methods’ option is now available under the ‘account’ link.

Either it’s a bug or I’m going mad. Anyway, I’m letting you know because I would have renewed my subscription two weeks ago if I’d been able to update the payment details more easily.

Like a few others above I am happy to pay the increased sub when my renewal comes up in April. Instead of causing admin involved in changing sub rates etc, I have chucked a pint or two at this page https://singletrackworld.com/donate/ instead.

Having been out of MTB for a decade due to work, city, wheels nicked, kids, etc I found singletrack again at the perfect time. I love the balance between human/adventure and kit/bits/parts so for me the value of the printed mag is huge. I’m happy to help in even a small way.

@BruceWee – You are not going mad. We shouldn’t have pointed you to the my-account link, but, to your subscription detail page ( go to /account/subscription and click through to the subscription detail page via the ‘View’ button ) where there is a payment method link. The reason you didn’t see the payment method link on the main account page initially was because I believe you didn’t have any saved payment methods at that point in time. When you went back to the main account page once you had a payment method – this link then showed. Hope that clears this up.

    @bcfse1
    – Thanks for publicising the donate page https://singletrackworld.com/donate/ — and bigger thanks for your extra contributions.

Thanks for that. Just to let you know, I did have a card saved but it had expired so I guess the end result was the same.

    Apols of bing fick:

If you are already a member or become a member before the 30th November then your annual cost will be fixed for the next 12 months.

So if I renew in Jan 2023 will my renewal be £39 or £45?
