Podcast: Ride Sheffield – Best Community Initiative: Be Nice, Say Hi.

by 0

We talk to Ride Sheffield, the winners of the Best Community Initiative Award in the Singletrack Reader Awards, sponsored by Kona.

We wanted the Best Community Initiative Award to be about people, and to go to the project, campaign or other initiative that’s helping build our community. Ride Sheffield’s ‘Be Nice Say Hi’ campaign is one that’s spread nationwide and is well deserving of recognition. What’s more, Ride Sheffield is one of the most successful and well established trails advocacy groups in the UK, and its Be Nice Say Hi campaign has become an integral part of UK MTB culture, almost universally recognised as the first step towards shared trail harmony. We chat to them about winning the award, and what’s to come next in their work.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.
