BREAKING: Mum to be, Rachel Atherton in car crash (She’s fine)

Multi World Cup DH winner, Rachel Atherton, who recently announced her pregnancy, posted on Instagram pictures of her written off VW Camper van after a collision with an oncoming driver that sent her and partner Olly down an embankment.

The pair were shaken up but thanks to seatbelts and airbags both were unscathed. As a precaution Rachel was taken to hospital where she announced she and her unborn baby were given the all clear.

20 Weeks pregnant // Halfway!! 🤰It’s been a rough week – Olly @ollydavey & I were in a car crash a few days ago, an oncoming car came around a corner spinning across our lane & we hit the cars back end as it span & we went off the road down a bank – It was TERRIFYING & a real shock.
I felt fine but still went to hospital & got checked over – & the BABY IS FINE!! 🌼
🐣
Thankfully we were wearing our seatbelts & apart from a painful bruised sternum I’m totally fine, olly is fine & bubba seems fine in there, growing nicely! 👍🥰
.
I wasn’t going to post about this, but then I thought, honestly, we were saved by our seatbelts & I am so grateful the van was strong & with airbags – you never ever think a car crash is going to happen to you, but we had no control over the other persons actions & all you can do is be as safe as you can in your own decisions!
.
#seatbelt!!
The VW Transporter Campervan was my pride & joy & I’m devastated 😭😭 we had it converted by our good friend @swansonsconversions after my perfect seasons, the camper held many special memories.
the main thing is that we’re all safe & ok, but I’m still sad about the VW 😢!! #vwtransporter#vwcamper
.
Wear your seatbelt!
Stay safe! Xxxxx 🖤
& Thank You to the NHS staff at Bronglais Hospital Aberystwyth for making sure bump was fine 🙏🥰

Singletrack Owner/Publisher

Mark has been riding mountain bikes for over 30 years and co-owns Singletrack, where he's been publisher for 25 years. While his official title might be Managing Director, his actual job description is "whatever needs doing" – from wrangling finances and keeping the lights on to occasionally remembering to ride bikes for fun rather than just work. He's seen the sport evolve from rigid forks to whatever madness the industry dreams up next, and he's still not entirely sure what "gravel" is. When he's not buried in spreadsheets or chasing late invoices, he's probably thinking about his next ride.
