It’s taken three years of design and tweaking, but the steel tubed, Stif Squatch is finally here. It features 29in wheels, a 78° seat tube and 64° head angle and its designed for a 130mm, short offset fork. Just don’t call it ‘a 29er Morf’ as it’s more than that, apparently. Oh, and it comes with a pretty bonkers video…
The original 4130 cromo steel Stif Morf was launched four long years ago and has been one of the go-to 27.5in hardtails for more aggressive riders. (Works well on all-round trails too, only it particularly thrives on the steep and chunky). A lot of riders, including us, have been wondering when a 29er version might be coming out. Turns out that Stif has been playing with prototypes for the last few seasons – and now it’s ready to launch the Stif Squatch to the world.
First, here’s the aforementioned, slightly bonkers, video. And we’ll admit to having to turn on the (comically incorrect) captions a few times to understand the gist of what they were saying.
The Stif Squatch in numbers
OK, we’ve heard a few numbers, but everyone’s going to be asking about numbers, so here are a few for the Stif Squatch: 64°/78° angles, optimised for a short offset, 130mm fork. There’ll be three sizes: Medium (460mm reach), Large (480mm reach) and Extra Large (500mm reach).
The bikes will have short seat tube lengths – 420, 450 and 480mm respectively. This should allow droppers of up to 200mm. There’s plenty of room for 29 x 2.6in Maxxis tyres.
There will be two complete builds available, as well as a frame-only option – in three colours: Silver, Bone and Teal.

I’ve got a funny feeling they won’t be able to keep up with demand on these!
The seat tube seems very steep for a hard tail too. I like a steeper tube on full suspension, but is it needed on a hard tail?
Will we be seeing a “SUS-Squatch”?
See what I did there.
Likey. Looks cracking in the Teal.
Nice, though a UK designed hardtail frame with a mud shelf behind the seat tube??
If it’s anything like the Morf it’ll be brilliant. Really regret selling mine. If I was in the market for a new hardtail this would be near the top of the list.
That looks cracking. Shame the video came out too late for the reader’s awards.
Those curved chain stays and squished seatstays look fantastic- I wonder how much ‘steel is real feel’ they give. Looks a cracker!
Guy Kesteven seemed pretty impressed having watched his YouTube video. Although it’s not Reynolds tubing, that higher spec version looks more tempting than the Cotic and Stanton options currently on my list
As Guy states it’s hardly an allrounder. A very specific bike for a narrow focus rider.
