Hope and Commencal are 3D printing PPE masks for hospitals

by 2

Commencal and Hope Technology have put aside printing prototypes to help 3D print PPE face masks for local hospitals.

Although it’s a sad and crazy time, it has also been a time that has shown the cycling industry give back to the local community. During the Covid-19 pandemic, we’ve seen the cycling industry join forces and help their local communities in numerous ways from manufacturing products to help protect frontline workers, to entertaining isolated mountain bikers.

Earlier in the Pandemic, we learned that French brand, Monkeys Sauce had moved from manufacturing bike cleaning and lubrication products to produce disinfecting hand gel for local French hospitals. But the support hasn’t stopped there, and with a shortage of PPE face masks available for hospitals brands have put aside manufacturing and prototyping to 3D print masks.

In Andorra, Commencal is using its 3D printer, normally used for 3D printing prototype frames and parts, to 3D printing PPE face masks which it will supply to hospitals in the area.

And closer to home, Hope Technology has been doing some good with its own PPE masks that even use the same Hope branded elastic straps that they use on their high-quality range of bike lights.

As far as we can tell, Hope Technology hasn’t posted it’s PPE manufacture on any of it’s social media or made any noise about what they are doing, and we’re sure there are many other mountain bike brands, and cycling related companies quietly doing their bit to help protect health staff from illness while caring for us at this crazy time.

To all those brands helping us at this time of uncertainty, the Singletrack team give you a round of applause and our doors are open (after lockdown) for some of Chipps’ signature coffee!
