“Splish, splash, sploosh… whirr… whirr” – which is either the sound of the endless rain here, combined with the TurboTrainer Of Desperation… OR it’s the sound of espresso being delivered into our new mugs to the sound of the Wega coffee machine’s resilient motor…

This has been one of those weeks that tests the nerve of even the hardiest of mountain bikers. It appears to be raining all day and all night, the trails are sodden and the thought of the return of summer seems a very, very long way off. But it will happen! Slowly the dry days will start to return and will eventually overpower the rainy days with the power of warmth. Hang in there and we’ll see you through.

In the meantime, you can spend those still-dark, cold evenings planning some adventures. Grab your Singletrack calendar and start blocking out some weekends! Book some accommodation, books some guided rides, book some travel. Maybe even consider a few cheeky upgrades…

And that leads us neatly into a round up of some of the new bits and pieces that have been dropping into the office this week…

Patrol E-Six

Last year Patrol invited Andi out to Bali where he got to test the 2020 range of bikes including the Patrol E-Six. Andi now has the powerful E-Six here in the UK to see what the Indonesian e-Bike is capable of.

Patrol offers the E-Six in two build options, this being the more affordable E-Six with Fox Performance suspension and a 1 x 12 SLX drivetrain. There’s also a higher-end build with Fox Factory Kashima shocks and XT kit.

Both versions of the Patrol E-Six come with the same alloy e-Enduro frame boasting 160mm of travel at the front and 150mm travel on the rear. The bike is fitted with 29in wheels front and rear, and all versions run the same Shimano E8000 motor and Patrol/SMP developed 630Wh battery.

VeeTire Co. Flow Snap WCE Top 40

VeeTire Co. is really stepping up its game with a range of gravity orientated tyres that are great value and also high-perfoming too.

The Vee Tire Flow Snap WCE are the top of the range downhill tyre from the Thai rubber giants, and is the same tyre that World Cup Downhill teams like The Brigade and Propain Factory Racing will be on for the coming season.

This flagship tyre now comes in a wider 2.5in profile and with the company’s super sticky Top 40 rubber compound, a rubber originally designed for drag racing!

Burgtec Cloud Saddle

Designed for UK riding, the Burgtec Cloud saddle has great cushioning and a super comfortable shape. There are options to suit all price points from a Cr-mo railed £34.99 version all the way to a flashy carbon version at £119.99.

The model we have here comes with lightweight Ti rails and a carbon base for a nice mix of lightweight and value for money.

Not Jumpy Not Grumpy 426ml Mug

ssingletrack big mug

Do you remember how we all debated the 26in versus 29er wheel sizes around ten years ago. Well, I am afraid those arguments may well come back, you see, at the Singletrack Merch Laboratory we have created a whole new mug size… “the 426er”.

The 426er mug is around 50% more biggerer* than a regular mug, and that carries several significant advantages. Not only can you be 50% more hydrated and/or caffeinated, but you will also need to consume 50% more biscuits to counter that amount of beverage.

What’s not to like about a mug that makes you eat more biscuits? You would have to be some sort of damned fool calorie counting indoor Peloton playing roadie not to like the idea of more biscuits.

Muc-Off Technical Riders Jacket

Muc-Off just keeps on expanding and now offers a complete range of technical riders gear to keep the water off while your ride. First up is the Muc-Off Technical Riders Jacket, a waterproof jacket with oodles of features to keep you dry on the trail.

The jacket sports a stormproof main zip, pocket zips and chest pocket zip, taped seams and a removable hood. Reflective detailing keeps you visible in low-light while the breathable material promises to keep you comfortable on long rides.

Muc-Off Technical Riders Short

No more damp bottoms.

With your top-half covered, Muc-Off has also focussed on keeping the lower portion of your body dry too. Once again these shorts sport a waterproof and breathable material, taped seams and stormproof zips.

We do wonder how waterproof these shorts will prove to be as a large elastic area at the rear doesn’t look quite as water tight as the rest of the design, but only time will tell.

If you’re wondering what the velcro patch is for on both the shorts and the jacket, it is so you can buy add on accessory patches to personalise your technical riders wear how you like.

Muc-Off MTB Gloves

Bolt gloves.

The Bolt glove is just one design that Muc-Off offers, but we love the bright pink design that matches the rest of the technical kit perfectly.

High-tech features include a perforated Clarino palm for moisture wicking, silicone print for added grip and a micro-fibre sweat and snot wiper.

All Muc-Off clothing is available online through the Muc-Off website.

And that’s us for the weekend (well, it will by by 6pm…) – if you’re out this weekend, well done – your summer self will thank you. And if you’re spending the days hiding under the duvet with chocolates, we can’t say we blame you. But don’t blame us when that first climb on the Dyfi Enduro comes as a shock…

Meanwhile, we’re off to the chippy…
