We’re Giving This Bike Away On Saturday! Lapierre Edge AM 727

by 1

Are you the kind of rider who enjoys exploring the mountains, heading to the trail centre, and tackling sumptuous single track? Of course, you are, you’re a mountain biker after all aren’t you? Now just because you enjoy clearing challenging terrain doesn’t necessarily you enjoy dropping a couple of thousand GBP on a bike, and nor should you have to.

We still can’t believe the price of this!

Although we all like to drool over the latest carbon fibre hyper bike with all the travel and flashy paint jobs, most of us could actually have just as much, if not more, fun on a decent hardtail. What’s more, there are plenty of quality hardtails on the market today that won’t bankrupt you.

All quality branded parts on the EDGE AM 727.

French bicycle maker Lapierre understands the importance of offering a capable, well-equipped bike at a good price, and is why they developed the EDGE AM series of hardtails. The range of bikes includes 4 models from the EDGE AM 527 to AM 827. The model we have here and plan to give away on Saturday is the EDGE AM 727 bike.

What?! A fingerprint scanner too?!

Starting off with the frame, Lapierre has chosen to use aluminium for the EDGE AM 727, using what the company is calling “Supreme 4 Hydroformed” tubing. This increases strength and stiffness to the areas of the frame that need it most without increasing the overall weight of the bike.

A mix of internal and external cable and hose routing is used on the Lapierre Edge AM 727.

The frame also boasts an integrated headset, internal dropper post routing, and external brake hose and gear cable routing for ease of maintenance.

RockShox Recon forks, Shimano brakes and WTB tyres at this price!

At just £899 you might expect to see a bunch of no name components, but Lapierre’s team has sourced a balanced mix of kit that won’t break the bank while ensuring an engaging ride day after day.

120mm of air sprung suspension.

A Rockshox Recon RL fork is a surprise at this price, more so when you consider that this fork comes with 120mm of travel via the Soloair suspension platform. Along with being simple to set up with a shock pump, there’s also externally adjustable compression, lockout and rebound too.

An XT rear mech and Shimano SLX shifters make for quality shifting combo.

Surprisingly the drivetrain is a Shimano 1 x 11-speed system with a Shimano XT rear mech and SLX shifter. There’s no front mech on the EDGE AM 727, so the Lapierre branded chainset is fitted with a 32T narrow wide chainring to keep your chain in place over rough terrain.

A threaded BB is a great addition at any price.

Sometimes on more affordable bikes, we see press fit style bottom brackets used, but Lapierre has used a good old threaded BB with large bearings for peace of mind.

Shimano hydraulic disc brakes front and rear.

Shimano hydraulic disc brakes bring the Lapierre EDGE AM 727 to a stop via Shimano discs bolted to Lapierre branded hubs. These are laced to double wall alloy rims with 14G black spokes. Lapierre branded components make up much of the rest of the bike including the 30.9mm stealth dropper post, low-rise bar and short stem.

There’s even a stealth dropper post included too.

All in all the Lapierre EDGE AM 727 looks and feels like a great bike for the money, one we would love to take for a spin on our local trails but unfortunately, we can’t because we’re giving it away!
