The UCI Mountain Bike rode into Lenzerheide, Switzerland, and it was a more than successful event for British riders in a heap of categories.
Danny Hart finished a split-second ahead of American Aaron Gwin to secure his first ever World Cup victory. Santa Cruz’s Greg Minaar made up the final podium spot.
In the Women’s event, it was none other than Rachel Atherton who added another World Cup success to her never-ending list of accolades. Tahnee Seagrave finished just 0.7 seconds behind Atherton with fellow Brit Manon Carpenter missing out on a podium finish by a second. Myriam Nicole of France completed the top three.
There was even some success at the juniors with Elliot Heap finishing in second place behind Canadian Finnley Iles.
Hart took to Facebook following the victory.
“On route home from Lenzerheide, so I thought I would come on here and thank everyone for the kind words about yesterday’s race, I still don’t think it has sunk in,” he said.
“Also a huge thank you to everyone who has helped me get to this point! There are so many to name, but you all know who you are, THANK YOU!
“National Championships next weekend, then a couple of weeks break before heading out to Canada for WC 6 in Mont Sainte Ann.”
Atherton also used social media to express her joy at winning an eleventh successive World Cup race, with her Instagram page.
“Flying into the finish of Lenzerheide World Cup to take the win by just 0.7seconds,” Atherton captioned the above image.
“I struggled to get into the race track here, had fun riding it for sure but to race it was difficult to push hard, I had to ask my brother (Dan Atherton) for some advice on riding berms because I just don’t ride berms enough and was loosing time in them.
“It’s always good to overcome your anxieties and get the job done, So just remember- you NEVER know what is going to happen, so don’t stop trying!”
Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada, is next up on the World Cup circuit starting on the 6th of August.
