New Rockshox SID Forks Announced

by 2

The RockShox SID, for many, the first dedicated XC race fork and for many riders, the definitive XC race fork for years, has been revamped and relaunched today, and will be available to buy from July this year. Here’s the official press release shot:

And, since our Rob got his peepers on it at press camp in Italy, here’s another shot:

RockShox says it has brought the SID back to its roots, and focussed back on XC use, whereas recent evolutions had sought to compete in the Trail market. By getting back to these XC roots, RockShox claims it has been able to focus on creating a 100m travel fork that is stiff and light.

RockShox states that the new SID has: shorter and lighter upper tubes and air shafts; is air spring optimized for 100mm – meaning no need for pre-installed tokens and maintains tune-ability; knocked out magnesium dropouts; easier to hit stiffness requirements at 100mm with less material in lower than with a longer travel fork.

The SID World Cup and Damper models also feature an all new charger damper with fully bled bladder cartridge damper, two position ‘open’ and ‘lock’, and factory tuned high-speed compression circuit.

The Maxle™ Ultimate is standard for AM models (Maxle™ Stealth on OEM models). The SID World Cup, at the top of the range, comes with carbon fibre crown steerer unit and is almost 100g lighter than the previous SID. One for the weight weenies.

Pricing will be as follows:

  • SID World Cup Remote: £1,028
  • SID World Cup Crown: £965
  • SID RLC Remote: £768
  • SID RLC Crown: £709
  • SID XX Remote: £709
  • SID RL Remote: £562
  • SID RL Crown: £504

All SID forks are Torque Cap compatible and will come in both 15x100mm and BOOST (15×110).

Weights: The SID World Cup will be 1366g, with the SID RL, RLC and XX forks coming in at 1500-and a bit grams. (1523-1572g). This makes the SID World Cup just about exactly the same weight as the new Fox 32SC that we saw last month. Obviously having the cross country Olympics this year is good for focussing development for this kind of top-end race fork.

Sizes: The SID will come in 27.5in and 29in – with Boost and non-Boost versions for each wheel size. The 29in Boost size will also take a 27.5+ wheel too.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.
