Trail pedals? From who?
Maybe it’s our age, but the brand Ritchey -especially the WCS group- will forever be associated with cross-country racing (WCS stands for World Championship Series in case you were wondering) Preferably on steel hardtails. With rigid forks. And red, white, and blue paint jobs. But now that sister brand Syncros has eloped with the handsome bikes from Scott, Ritchey is showing more of its rad side.
The WCS Trail pedal is a mid-platform pedal not unlike the Shimano models that have become extremely popular of late. Less for riding unclipped than for providing a larger target while clipping in and a bit more shoe stability while pedaling, the WCSs don’t have the traction pins of more aggressive models, but that’s really not the point. While the WCS Trails may not be destined for the race course, the pedals haven’t exactly avoided Ritchey’s gram-shaving: the claimed 347g per pair is roughly 30g lighter than Shimano’s XTR Trail pedals.
The design looks to have plenty of room for mud evacuation and the cost-effective CrMo axles keep the price to £135. The Trails would look right at home on a mid-travel full susser or rowdy hardtail. Something like the lustworthy new Ritchey Timberwolf. Maybe Ritchey gets this trail thing after all.

“not unlike the Shimano models” they said, understating it just a litt.e
Priced a little bit more than Shimano!
We’re hoping to get a set in to compare side by side with Shimano’s Trail pedals.
