Built to replace OEM frame and fork thru axles, Industry Nine’s new Matchstix is one of the tidier on-bike toolkits we’ve seen. Securing the wheel “with style,” the system’s candy-coloured thru bolts have a hex, chain, and valve core tools built into a removable T-handle.
Into the axle itself slides a sleeve of 1/4in Hex and Torx bits as well as a keeper for a spare chain link and a bit driver. As the tools are removable, only one set is needed, simplifying the system and leaving one wheel with nothing hanging off its end. The axles themselves are expected to run $55 (front) and $65 (rear) while the tool kit should add $90- not inexpensive, but in the US not significantly more expensive than many OEM replacements. All of course come in Industry Nine’s full compliment of anodised colours and are CNC machined in North Carolina.
