Cotic has today launched the brand new version of their popular Solaris 29er frame.

Skinny wheels…

The new frame keeps the Reynolds 853 front triangle, and apparently the Ovalform top tube and 35mm seat tube “keep the weight, stiffness and durability in the sweet spot”. You can order it with 29er wheels, or for a slight upcharge you can get some 27.5+ wheels to fit instead – the frame will take both sizes happily.

…and chubby

The Solaris contains their ‘latest thinking on bike fit and progressive handling’ too. With a 120mm fork, the Solaris sports a 68degree head angle, a (relatively relaxed these days) 72.5degree seat angle, and reach is commendably long throughout the sizes. It’ll also run a 100mm fork with no problems.

Very suave

Frames start at £499. More details here.

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.
