On the weekend of 13th and 14th of June, Round 3 of the Borderline PMBA Enduro series hits Lee Quarry and Cock Hill. We sent our ever-intrepid Rich to take a look at the course and to give us a sneak peek at what’s in store:

This time last year, The Lee Quarry/Cock Hill event struggled to sell out, but not this year… Word of mouth about last year’s fantastic course, and the series’ general popularity, mean that this year it’s likely to be a sell out – with a couple of weeks to go there are only a few places left.

This is a 2 day event; practice on Saturday, and race on Sunday. Round 3 takes in stages at Lee Quarry and Cock Hill, with a couple of secret special saiuce locations on private land in between. Nice.

So what to expect? Well, the race has 6 stages. Stage 1 is in Lee Quarry. Similar in profile to or very own Singletrack Weekender – which is to say berm-like trailcentre madness, swiftly flowing into a less-cut bit. In a word? FAST. You need to get your eye in quick. Punchy little climbs. Yum.

Stage 2 transitions out of Leigh Quarry and acoss the moors into private land. This stage has a more natural, fresh trail feel, with some more punch little climbs to keep you on your toes. Wide-taped regions with multiple line choices. Loads of fun and a real challenge to ride fast.

Stage 3 A local downhill-style trail on private land, cut amongst trees with some tight lines. There are some jumps and drops, but all can be avoided if you’re less-gravity inclined.

Then there’s a longest transition of the day over to Cock Hill and Stage 4 – the classic Dark Red of Cock Hill’s downhill trails. Braaap.

A push up to Stage 5 which is down ‘The Beast’ – a great fun track with a mahoosive (yes, it’s a word. Now) rock garden in the middle, followed by a loamy bit and a lovely off camber section. So. Much. Fun. you. Won’t. Believe. It,

And the guys at Cock Hill are also cutting in some new sections here, which will be ready in time for the event.

Stage 6 – the final stage – is back over to Leigh Quarry for a final swoopy, bery, jumpy BOO-YAH, with a steep chute in the middle – (heeheehee). Hecklers are likely to congregate here, be warned! It’s a great fun course, in my opinion. one of the highlights of the series.

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.
