The Lourdes UCI World Cup DH, via the medium of crash

by 1

Quite a weekend for racing, what with the opener of the UCI World Cup at Lourdes and everything. The Men’s race was won by Aaron Gwin, who crashed during qualifying, but went on to trounce allcomers. There’s a (partial) video of his run here – he was so early they didn’t capture all of it:

Loic Bruni came second, despite this unpleasant-looking crash during practice:

Emmeline Ragot thrashed the field in the ladies race, after favourite Tracey Hannah crashed out in a frankly unpleasant prang:

And as a little prang-shaped cherry on the top, here’s a choice little crash video with a selection of various bumps and scrapes you can wince over:

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.
