We’ve reviewed products from Haglöfs before and the conclusions have always been: high price, great fit and extremely well-made Swedish gear. Did the L.I.M (‘less is more’) III Jacket make the same impression?
Coming from an outdoor background and taking part in multiple sports, I usually keep mountaineering kit for mountaineering and riding gear for riding, but the L.I.M III Jacket is a true multi-sport, lightweight jacket that works well while riding, walking and looks good in the pub! When you think of it like that, this one makes at least two jackets redundant; my wife will like that. Constructed from single-layer 20D Gore-Tex Paclite, it’s as packable as a thick windproof and doesn’t take up much space when it’s not being worn. The lack of additional features helps: one chest pocket that is perfectly positioned between waist and chest buckles, and thin adjustment elastics, and that’s it.
The single-handed hem drawcord and three-way adjustable hood – big enough to comfortably fit over a helmet – meant I could lock myself in and away from the elements. On the trail the nature of the lightweight single layer fabric is noticeable, it doesn’t feel like much more than a windproof. Only when the weather turned was I reminded that I was wearing a fully-taped waterproof. During autumn downpours, I’ve been opting to wear a summer base layer underneath, which seems to be a perfect combination.
Overall: The L.I.M III fits well, is fantastically constructed and works as a multi-sport jacket. I wouldn’t go trail digging in it, but would be happy wearing it on an all-day ride in the mountains.
