Knee pads-1

Troy Lee Design’s KG5450 pad is a knee/shin guard with a no-nonsense slim design offering a compact and sleek-looking pad without any bulky straps. The elasticised mesh sleeve fits our tester’s legs perfectly and easily, while the no-slip internal grip zones keep the pad firmly in place and don’t allow any movement that may cause uncomfortable rubbing while pedalling. A hard protective inner shell keeps the pad streamlined and also provides great high impact protection. Providing coverage on the centre of the knee and shin, the protective layer gets thinner as it goes around the sides of the leg. This provides all-round protection but keeps the pad flexible for a snug fit and comfort while pedalling. For me the KG5450 pad offers excellent protection without the bulkiness, but at the same time looks great.

Overall: A pad that you put on at the start of the day and forget about, thanks to its epic comfort and snug fit.

Singletrack Owner/Publisher

Mark has been riding mountain bikes for over 30 years and co-owns Singletrack, where he's been publisher for 25 years. While his official title might be Managing Director, his actual job description is "whatever needs doing" – from wrangling finances and keeping the lights on to occasionally remembering to ride bikes for fun rather than just work. He's seen the sport evolve from rigid forks to whatever madness the industry dreams up next, and he's still not entirely sure what "gravel" is. When he's not buried in spreadsheets or chasing late invoices, he's probably thinking about his next ride.
