…or city style for the trail?
A pack with a feet planted in different worlds, Evoc’s FR Porter can be viewed from a couple of perspectives. As advertised, it’s a commuter-oriented pack complete with a CE-certified back protector. From another angle, it can be seen as a trail pack with all of Evoc’s usual technical features – but in a colourway that won’t prompt spousal eye rolling.
We had a chance to play with a Porter at Interbike ages ago and it was a good looking pack with oodles of pockets, including one each for an iPad and 17in laptop. The yawning zip looked to provide easy access to the depths as well. A deployable helmet/pad strap can hold… well, ideally helmets or pads. Should the weather turn, a rain cover is also included (hooray for German backpacks!).
The included Evoc Liteshield back panel “combines maximum impact protection, super light weight, a very effective construction as well as superb flexibility.” Plus, it’s TÜV SÜD approved to the EU standards 89/686/EWG for personal safety gear, category 2 (PSA) – and they don’t mess about. It may be the rapidly passing years, but this sort of thing increasingly seems quite sensible – for both road and trail.
The FR Porter is available in two sizes for £170.

You know that temperature insensitivity bit… with an upper limit of 30C… Isn’t that lower that it’s potential operating temperature, pressed against a human being?
